I've been working in mixture of technology, management, and business since the mid-90s. I've started two companies, one a nonprofit, which are still going strong over twtenty years later. I built one of NZ's first internet providers, ran the infrastructure team for a large US internet provider, built compute clusters for a fabless semiconductor company, founded and managed a US nonprofit through to federal tax excempt status, and spent a decade working at Weta Digital where I got to work on Lord of the Rings, Avatar, and many other films.
I'm getting a lot of questions about AI, what it means and what's going to happen. I don't think anyone knows — the current rate of change makes it impossible to predict anything. Some very smart people are predicting disaster, and some very smart people are predicting utopia. What I can say is that even if the abilities of AI stopped increasing today, culturally we would still be integrating the changes for decades to come.
While there are a lot of reasonable concerns and mountains of uncertainty, from a practical standpoint, AI enables me to build solutions for customers at a price that simply wasn't possible a year ago. I'd like to see the myriad of people and organisations get the benefit of this technology.
Over the years I have found myself instinctively reaching for the phone to Adam when needing help with perspective, implementing a new system or making a considered decision. Oh and also when breaking my website! He genuinely cares about making things better and easier on all platforms in life. I can't recommend him more highly.
— Inge Rademeyer, Manager at Wētā FX
Adam has been an incredibly valuable resource for us over a collection of film projects and business strategies. His ability to see, decipher and clearly explain complex problems that straddle the intellectual, emotional, technological and social is in my view unparalleled. He consults with honesty and integrity, delivering his point of view clearly without pushing an agenda.
— Mike Wallis, Director at Mi Films
Leading a team can be a pretty lonely experience. Managers Anonymous gave me the peers and space I needed to develop my leadership skills. It's had an enormous impact on the way I work.
